Hondaween: Surprising Texas With Treats, Not Tricks
Each year, we honor Halloween with a special celebration we call, Helpful Hondaween. This Halloween season, we carved out some fun and visited various cities across North Texas including Paris, Arlington, Dallas, Denton, Frisco, and Fort Worth. We surprised families with Random Acts of Helpfulness, and this Helpful Hondaween, we provided families with free pumpkins!
Our Helpful Honda team spent time at the City of Paris Pumpkin Patch, Blasé Family Farms, Christ United Methodist Church, Trinity Methodist Church, 1stChristian Church in Arlington, Family Fun Farms, New Day Church in Southlake, Storybook Ranch, Woods United Methodist Church, and many more. We surprised families with complimentary pumpkins to take home for Halloween and enjoy during the fall season. We helped the families pick out the best pumpkins and load them into their cars, too. One attendee at the Trinity United Methodist Church expressed their gratitude when they told us, “Thanks for helping me pay for my pumpkins and being my ray of sunshine today.” We love providing random acts of kindness to people across the state and we never know what they are going through in their own lives. One resident in Plano explained that “Halloween is a big deal for us every year so it’s nice that this year it’s not carving into our pockets.”
We know that the fall season can be exciting, but it can also be overwhelming. To take some stress off of the busy parents, we volunteered at the local YMCA in Dallas, Texas. Around 45 kids were in attendance, and we helped the kids decorate their pumpkins, participate in Hondaween activities, and fed them with any kids’ favorite food – pizza!. We gave the kids something special to do for the evening, and one kid told us “My mommy and daddy get to have a date night tonight! And I get a pumpkin, that’s fair to me!”
Unfortunately, some kids aren’t able to join in on the Hondaween fun, so we worked with the Child Life Staff at Children’s Health Dallas to purchase costumes and donated them to the kids at the hospital. If they couldn’t enjoy Halloween, we made sure we brought Hondaween to them. They were so excited and grateful. We provided Lego Batman, Star Wars, Iron Man, Bumble Bee costumes and so much more!
The fall season brings about a spirit of giving that is important to continue year-round. So what is next for us? Continuing this spirit of helpfulness! This coming winter season, we are partnering with more organizations to provide holiday meals to families in need and even providing new bikes to kids! We look forward to continuing to give back to the community and putting smiles on many more faces.
