It was a holly, jolly, Christmas – the best time of the year – and one of our most helpful, yet!
The current pandemic put a halt to a lot of families’ holiday plans and abilities to really celebrate. We wanted to help, so throughout the DFW metroplex, we brought free Christmas trees, holiday gifts, warm holiday meals, and some kids were even surprised with free bikes from our Helpful Honda Elves!
First, we stopped by Ruibal’s Plants of Texas to help over 100 families receive free Christmas trees! Residents were very surprised, sharing, “Thank you guys doing this, it means a lot in these hard times” and, “You just made my day! I didn’t even know you guys were doing this. Thank you so much.”
Next, we headed to Downtown Dallas to feed over 200 homeless men and women living on the streets, with a warm meal that included chicken, mashed potatoes, pie and more. “This food is so good, thank you so much.” We also provided some essential items to everyone including a toothbrush, shampoo, soap, wipes, and lotion, too.
Then, we heard Magdalena’s story –she’s a mother of two kids, who has been unable to work due to the pandemic. Magdalena had to move in with her sister and niece in the meantime, and her sister was recently furloughed from her job due to the pandemic. It’s been a tough year for them all, and Magdalena shared, “This year has been tough on us physically, and financially. We agreed not to do gifts but the kids deserve some Christmas magic. Anything would help.” So, we sent our Helpful Honda Guys to bring some holiday cheer to the family – we brought along video games, educational toys, spa and relaxation gifts and more! Magdalena shared, “This is such a pleasant surprise! Thank you so much!”
And lastly, we headed to a local Boys & Girls Club in Fort Worth to bring a big surprise for a few of their kids – brand new bicycles for Christmas. One mom shared, “I couldn’t afford gifts this year. You guys helped with a Christmas gift for my daughter, she’s going to love this bike. Thank you!” Two boys recently stopped going to the B&G Club due to lack of transportation – but with the new bikes, we’re told they’re excited to be able to come back. “It’s been tough for them, not being able to have a place to go, and being able to use our resources. But these bikes you gave them … you’ve given them a piece of their life back.”
Whether it’s the holidays, helping organizations throughout North Texas, a special event, or just a Saturday at the dog park – you’ll always see our Helpful Honda Guys finding new ways to be helpful.
