‘Twas the season of giving for The North Texas Honda Dealers this December! The Guys in Blue continued their Random Acts of Helpfulness by spreading some Helpful Holiday cheer, and surprising kids & teens from the Fort Worth Boys & Girls Club, families from Family Gateway in Dallas, and our beloved Veterans at the North Texas Veterans Affairs Center in Dallas.

At Family Gateway, we surprised families with a traditional holiday dinner, gifts, and holiday photos! Over 50 families enjoyed a catered meal complete with chicken ‘n dumplings, meatloaf, turkey ‘n dressing, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, greens, rolls, and some delicious apple pie. It’s a meal they don’t often get to indulge in themselves, especially for those with large families. One resident told us, “I haven’t had a meal like this since I was a child. It’s hard being able to afford a good meal for my family, so I appreciate you so much.” We even gave families gift cards to a local store, which brought some tears. “I didn’t think I would be able to get my kids any gifts, but this definitely helps us and now I can get everyone something. Thank you.”

We also delivered some holiday joy to the Dallas VA Medical Center with a warm, holiday breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, pastries, breakfast potatoes, and more, for over 100 Veterans. One thankful service member said, “Delicious. The best breakfast I’ve had since I’ve been here.” The Vets also had one special request: root beer floats!  Of course, we brought some for everyone to enjoy! “Root beer floats are my favorite!” one vet exclaimed as we brought out the ice cream. It’s safe to say, that the veterans were ecstatic to have new visitors that morning.

We wrapped up our Helpful Holiday festivities in Fort Worth by gifting bikes to thirty deserving children of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Tarrant County. Expecting to just help us build bikes for the day, the kids were excited to find out that the bikes were theirs to keep. After receiving her new bike, one happy girl told us, “I really wanted a bike for Christmas and you guys brought me one! This is the best day EVER!” Many families were really touched by the gift, simply because many could not afford new bikes for their kids otherwise. One mom shared, “It is such a surprise. I have three boys, and they’re all getting bikes today. This is such a blessing.”

So, what’s next for us? The North Texas Honda Dealers are continuing to be Helpful After the Holidays with the North Texas Food Bank and First Responders in Paris.  They are also bringing complimentary haircuts to the homeless in Fort Worth, surprising seniors with fuzzy socks, blankets and board games, and volunteering to paint the barn fences at Becky’s Hope Horse Rescue!
